Eye spy...an Optical Assistant apprenticeship!

Horncastle Eyecare and Solvo Vir are looking for an apprentice to join their team!

At Horncastle, we’re always looking to the future. Which is where people like you come in. Our apprenticeship scheme gives you the chance to really set yourself up for a great career in a fantastic company, and earn a full-time wage at the same time as learning and gaining a career opportunity.

A business administration apprenticeship within an Optician's such as Horncastle Eyecare, is the perfect way to start your career within Optometry.

But what exactly is an Apprentice Optical Assistant?

Not only would you be greeting customers, but you would be helping them in their eyecare journey. From making appointments, helping customers choose the right frames for them, adjusting and fitting specs as well as completing your training...you will have a busy day as an Apprentice Optical Assistant.

And what does the apprenticeship training involve?

Solvo Vir is Horncastle Eyecare's training provider; which means they will be overseeing your training and progression. The training modules will all be completed on the job, which means you won't need to attend College and will learn as you go! So you will not only be earning a wage, gaining work experience but you will also achieve:

  • Level 3 City and Guilds Diploma in Business Administration
  • Functional skills in English and maths (if required)

And what happens after my 18 month apprenticeship programme?

After the apprenticeship there may be an opportunity to progress to Dispensing Optician qualifications and even Optometry training with the relevant qualifications and studies.  A full dispensing qualification recognised by the GOC, ABDO and the College of Optometrists is a University/College course that could be pursued after the apprenticeship working on a part time study/part time work basis. Which means this is the perfect role to begin your optometry training!

Am I the right person for the role?

If you are able to get to Horncastle City centre easily everyday, and interested in starting an Optometry career, this role could be for you!

If you have a handful of A-C/ 9-4 GCSE qualifications and believe yourself to be IT literate you fit the criteria! And reliability, good communication skills and an interest in problem solving will also help you in the role!
