Guest blog from Scaman Eggs: Let's think about eggs this Easter!

How does an egg get from a chicken to the shops?

Scaman's Eggs are award-winning packers and distributors of great-tasting free range eggs produced by farms in the Lincolnshire countryside. We do not supply to supermarkets but you can find our eggs in various small and local businesses and retailers across Lincolnshire and beyond.  So how does a Scaman egg end up in your kitchen?

The chickens are looked after by Farmers who take great care in ensuring they are happy and healthy. Not only do they harvest and mix the feed, but they provide the chickens with safe, secure shelter from extreme weather. The happier and healthier the chicken, the greater the quality of eggs produced.

Once the eggs have been laid, they are collected by hand by the Farmers.

Eggs are then carefully transported to Scaman's Eggs for weighing, sorting and packaging.

The warehouse team first weigh the eggs using a state-of-the-art egg grading machine. Eggs must be weighed in order to sort them into sizes ready for packaging.  Eggs can be small, medium, large or very large.

Eggs are then printed with a code that is specific to Scaman's Eggs. This allows the consumer to know the type of egg, which country they're from, and the designated farm code.

The team then package the sorted eggs into boxes, trays and palettes.

Meanwhile, orders are placed by customers, including restaurants, cafes, bakers, shops, hotels and wholesale companies.

Those orders are then delivered by Scaman's own driver.

What a journey! Happy Easter!
