But what exactly is a Nursery Assistant?

A Nursery assistant, or worker, works within a nursery and looks after children under the age of 5.  This means you will be helping to develop young peoples minds with engaging and fun activities and making sure they stay safe.

And what would my day look like?

Throughout the day you will be interacting with children in your age group with games and activities. But you will also be monitoring each child to establish if they have hit their development milestones. Your shift will also include helping the children at mealtimes and making sure they stay safe; which means adhering to the nursery’s health and safety protocol!

Do I need any experience?

The good news is, that you wont need experience to start a career as a nursery assistant- and you can train on the job too!

What training is involved?

With Babcock, you will be working towards a level 2 Children and Young People’s Workforce Apprenticeship. Your assesment will take place throughout the 12 months apprenticeship programme, and you can complete many tasks everyday at work! This means you will be earning a wage whilst gaining your qualification!

So what does my future prospects look like?

A childcare apprenticeship could lead to permanent employment following your training …but within the industry you can continue training to a level 3  and even  manage your nursery!

How do I know if I am right for this role?

If you are patient, kind, observant and fun; then this role could be for you. But you will also need to be well presented and able to communicate to both children and their parents. And remember, you will need to keep up to your apprenticeship assessments too, so you need to be able to keep yourself organised.
