Christmas means one thing; the time of the Brussel Sprout!

Nothing divides the nation more than Brussels Sprouts, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em!

Nothing divides the nation more than Brussels Sprouts, you either love ‘em or hate ‘em!  Most people who don’t like them have been put off for life by memories of soggy, smelly, overcooked sprouts from their childhood.  But if you haven’t eaten them in a while, give sprouts another chance, modern varieties are a lot less bitter and there are some great recipes pairing sprouts with bacon and parmesan flakes, very cosmopolitan.

Look out for Kalettes, a new variety that is a cross between Kale and Brussels Sprouts, it looks like a flower and has a sweet nutty taste.  Manor Fresh were involved in the development of the Kalette and we were the first company to market the new variety.

To get UK produce to store, planning starts early in the New Year, previous sales are analysed and planting plans are made for the next season.  Crops are planted in April and May and harvesting starts in August and September, although many people say that you shouldn’t have sprouts until after there has been a frost as this causes them to produce natural sugars and so taste sweeter.

Our UK crops are grown in Scotland and Gloucestershire, the majority of the crop will be packed at source and sent straight to the retailers, thereby reducing the road miles and ensuring that the product is at its freshest when it reaches the customer.

Here at Manor Fresh we are gearing up for the Christmas supply of Brussels Sprouts.  Throughout our Christmas period we supply sprouts loose, netted, prepped and on trees!  In total we estimate that we will out load a total of 39,746,053 sprouts.
